Teletherapy at Speech meta

Our therapists at Speech Meta are accepting clients for teletherapy! Please fill out our intake form below and we will be in touch within 3 business days.

What is teletherapy?

Teletherapy is a way of providing clients and families with access to quality care by licensed professionals, especially when faced with any barrier to service, such as sickness, distance, or, in our current case, physical distancing protocols. Teletherapy means we are working with your family on the internet, using video conferencing! Other terms used to describe this method include: telehealth, telepractice, or telemedicine.

Teletherapy is direct, 1:1 or group services, similar to in-person therapy.

What do I need to participate in teletherapy?

Speak with your therapist directly to begin your teletherapy sessions. At Speech Meta, we use the platform Zoom. To start, all you need is a device with a built-in webcam, microphone and internet access. First, create a free account with Zoom, and then download the Zoom app onto your device. Your therapist will send you a unique meeting ID which is only for your child's sessions.

What does a teletherapy session look like?

Our therapists will use interactive games, screen-sharing, and lots of silliness to engage with your child in working on their speech and language goals! Teletherapy sessions are fun, interactive, and always individualized to best support your child.

Another benefit to teletherapy is the opportunity for family coaching within the child's home environment. Therapists are able to give real-time feedback to the child's family in the ways that they can support the child's communication in the setting they are most comfortable. This may be through live-play or shared video watching. If you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to your therapist.

Is teletherapy effective?

Yes! Many studies have explored teletherapy and show it can be successfully used to support families who face barriers to accessing services in person. We know the importance of working not only with your child, but with their whole support system - you and your family! In addition, teletherapy can allow clients to access services for shorter or longer sessions or with increased frequency, which may be more appropriate given your child's goals.
